STEP 3 - making your purchase decision

Costs alone should not be your deciding factor.  No matter which sourcing method you use, make sure to do the following:

• review the purchase contract in detail (read all the terms and conditions of your contract)

• clarify any questions you have about the contract, and if you agree to amended terms make sure it is in writing and forms a part of the contract

• consider ordering a few samples first to see exactly how the product will look in your own space under various lighting conditions
• ask if your supplier is bonded and insured.  Ask to see certificates of insurance to validate their insurance
• check them out in the local better business bureau and see if they have any unresolved complaints
• try to order with as little down payment as possible until the product is physically delivered, the ability to do this will vary from supplier to supplier
• ask for local references
